Temple Guards were common soldiers of the Temple Security Force, the defenders of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. They wielded standard blaster rifles and thermal detonators. Trained by Jedi Knights, Temple Guards were considered an adequate force. They served the Jedi Order until Operation Knightfall, after which surviving members joined the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Later after the Galactic Civil War, Luke Skywalker restored the position for the New Jedi Order.

They were mostly recruited from Republic Army personnel, Coruscant residents and Jedi initiates that failed their trails. Many were seen accompanying Jedi on trips throughout the galaxy. Guards were known for their loyalty to the Jedi Order, often loyal to the Order first and the Galactic Republic second. The ones with most Force sensitivity were selected to become Temple Ciphers.
